A Tidy Faith (Paperback)

An unusual and remarkable systematic theology. Unlike the heavy theological works prepared for students, that require close attention, this is very reader-friendly. The author is a Baptist scholar who has a lot of experience of teaching theological students and others in developing countries.

This is based broadly on the Baptist Confession of Faith, 1689. The author explains each doctrine, often with intriguing illustrations. He then presents the views of one or two principal theologians on one side, then the contrary point of view. He explores the differences giving the reader a comprehensive view of the biblical doctrine. This is very skilfully done and very enjoyable.

If one were to recommend a total theological book for everyone – enjoyable, manageable, sympathetic and productive – it would be this.

It is expensive but a tremendous investment.
