857 hymns, 266 of which are psalm versions, or evangelical versions of psalms, reverently updated wherever necessary to eliminate archaic language, and maintaining pronouns such as ‘thee’ and ‘thou’ only in addressing God.
This words edition (5 in x 7 in) in this Hymn book is in clear Roman typeface, double column to the page. It is case-bound in a blue leather-like vinyl cover, with title in gold blocking. Begins with an evangelical psalter - 'Spirit of the Psalms' (the first 150 hymn numbers correspond to the 150 psalms of the Bible). Altogether there are 266 psalm versions followed by 591 carefully selected hymns.
This selection exploits the very best of all hymnwriters in the Reformation tradition, drawing no hymns from Catholic, liberal or charismatic sources. A number of ‘lost’ but strongly doctrinal and experimental hymns have been restored to use, the hymnbook including more hymns on response to the Gospel, and communion with Christ than in other collections. A careful ratio is maintained between objective and subjective hymns.
(Words only, without music.)
