The first to use the expression "ancient paths" was the prophet Jeremiah, who assured those who followed them that they would find rest for [their] soul (Jer. 6:16). J.C. Ryle had the same conviction, and wrote: "The more years that pass, the more convinced I am that the world does not need a new gospel, as some seem to think. I am completely sure that the world only needs a full, courageous, and uncompromising teaching of the 'ancient paths'."
