Sunday school prize-giving suggestion for 7-11 year olds
This brief and lively account of the great battles and characters of the early churches in the first century will be a wonderful example and challenge to our young. The book opens in the days of the apostle John and goes on to tell the lives of Polycarp, Blandina, Arius (of Arian heresy fame), Athanasius and Anthony. Each character is described in only six pages on average, but it is enough for children. We learn how and why and where the Nicene Creed was formulated and how, in the days of Constantine, the bitter persecution of Christians (covered in the early chapters) ended and Christianity became the official religion of the empire. Young children are shown feelingfully how to discern between true and nominal Christians. They will be challenged to stand for the Lord by the brave examples of the first century and also warned by others who were deceivers.
