A large-format hard-bound book of 375 Doddridge hymns, with the texts that suggested them, and twenty of the tunes most directly associated with them in past usage. These hymns are very nicely presented, being re-typeset from a 1766 edition of Doddridge's hymns. The vast majority of these hymns are short, common and long metre. Doddridge, 1702-1751, was a Dissenting minister, a close friend and 'disciple' in poetry of Isaac Watts. This edition dates from before any revision of successive hymnbooks, and so many expressions are dated and quaint, but the hymns work very well in personal use in putting into the mind rich devotional reflections.
